I call this "creative winch tricks".  Kai positioned the 416 at the top of this 20' high rock outcropping in the middle of he creek at Rubicon springs.  We then connected the winch cable to the 411 which was used as a "deadman".  A snatch block was used as a slider and a handle was created from the handle of a hydraulic bottle jack and a rope.  The victim ascends the rock, then holding onto the handle, performs the "slide for life" over the pool below.  As you can see, Tina Serrano is in mid-stroke.  Victims can elect to drop into the pool or slide to a stop in the sand near the rear of the 411.  As fate would have it, we did have a near tragedy.  As a result of the use of the handle, a burr on the handle sliced through the rope, resulting in Dr. Dan being dropped onto the outcrop.  Fortunately, he hit a glancing blow and survived with only abrasions and contusions (brusies and scrapes).  Talk about putting a damper on festivities!!

If you attempt this feat yourself, insure that the handle is smooth and that the rope used to fashion the handle of adequate strength and in good shape.  Additionally, swim the pool BEFORE the first drop attempt to insure that it is deep enough and that you locate any submerged obstacles before impaling yourself on them.  Common sense, nothing more.  Besides, it is a long way to medical attention from Rubicon Springs.
